Michelle Yeoh Becomes the First Asian Artist to Win the Best Actress Oscar

The prestigious annual Academy Awards or Oscars will be held today, Monday (13/3) WIB or Sunday (12/3) American time. The award, which is always awaited by world film people, was broadcast live from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles.

The beautiful actress from Malaysia, Michelle Yeoh, is the most highlighted artist at the 2023 Oscars. The reason is, Michelle succeeded in making new history by winning the award for Best Actress. Which, this is Michelle's first nomination and win at the Oscars.

In her victory speech, Michelle said, "Ladies, don't let anyone tell you that you are past your glory days."

This prestigious award made Michelle the first actress from Asia to take home the Oscar for Best Actress. She got this victory thanks to her role as Evelyn Wang in the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once".

Winning her first Oscar at the age of 60, Michelle beat the beautiful actress Cate Blanchett, who was predicted to win the Best Actress award. Cate received a nomination in the same category for her role in the film "Tar", and is Michelle's fiercest rival.

The reason is, Michelle lost to Cate in the same category at the 2023 BAFTA awards. For her first win at the 2023 Oscars, Michelle also replaced several other actresses, namely Ana De Armas ("Blonde"), Andrea Riseborough ("To Leslie") and Michelle Williams (“The Fablemans”).

Before making history at the 2023 Oscars, Michelle commented about her chances of taking home the Best Actress award. She said that all Asian film people would be happy and proud if she could come out as Best Actress.

"And it's not just me (who's proud). I feel like my Asian community feels it too. They come up to me and say, 'You did it for us,'" Michelle told TIME last February.

Michelle's first Oscar win added to her collection of success through "Everything Everywhere All at Once". In early 2023, she won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy from the 2023 Golden Globes Awards. Similar to her work at the Oscars, Michelle's win was also her first Best Actress nomination and trophy in the history of the Golden Globes.

Before successfully winning various awards through "Everything Everywhere All at Once", whose full name is Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh Choo-Kheng, had a quite impressive career in the world film industry. Four SM Entertainment Idols Win the "One Take or Nothing" Title at It's Live
